This sporting event will once again place Boí Taüll on the international sporting map, as downhill skiing will be an Olympic discipline for the first time in Milano-Cortina d'Ampezzo 2026. In addition, this event will be a qualifier for the Olympic Games.

The Catalan resort has extensive experience in organizing high-level competitions in mountain skiing, beyond the World Cups: in the winter of 2023 it hosted the ISMF World Cups and the year 2022 the European Championships.

The mountain resort of Boí Taüll, managed by FGC Turisme, will once again be the scene of a high-level competition during the 2024-2025 winter season. On February 1 and 2, 2025, it will host the ISMF Ski Mountain World Cup, in the sprint and mixed relay modes, two events that will be Olympic in Milano-Cortina d'Ampezzo 2026. In addition, the event acquires maximum importance since it will be a qualifier for the Olympic Games and, therefore, will bring together the best skiers in the world to win the much-prized Olympic place. In this sense, we will have to keep an eye on the Catalan athletes since the results confirm that they have clear options for the podium: Oriol Cardona, Marta Garcia, Ot Ferrer, Maria Costa, Marc Ràdua and other athletes who may be selected.

The World Cup calendar, supported by the International Ski Mountain Federation (ISMF), will visit the Catalan resort again after passing through Courchevel (France), Bormio (Italy), Sahdag (Azerbaijan) and Pal Arinsal ( Andorra). After being in Alta Ribagorça, he will return to the Alps, where three more meetings will be held. Finally, in Norway, the skimo World Cup finals will be held.

The fruits of success

Once again, all eyes will be on Boí Taüll, the resort with the highest skiable elevation in the Pyrenees at the summit of Puig Falcó. In 2023 it became the official venue for the ISMF Alpine Skiing World Championships and in 2022 it organized the ISMF European Championships in the same format with great success. In addition, the winter of 2024 was also the stage for the ISMF Skimo World Cup, a competition that had good results for the Spanish team with three medals: the Catalan Oriol Cardona climbed the podium in twice, winning silver in mixed relays and bronze in sprints; and the Andalusian Ana Alonso achieved a second position in mixed relays.

The work of the last few years allows the Vall de Boí resort to become a permanent fixture of the Alpine Skiing World Cup calendar. The FGC has agreed with the ISMF and the FEDME to organize tests of an international nature in the coming years, which guarantees to be able to compete in tests beyond the Milan-Cortina d'Ampezzo 2026 Olympic Games and to bring together the best male and female skiers Of the world. But the impact of the World Cup does not end there, as it will also have a positive reading for the territory by placing Alta Ribagorça on the sports map in the winter season, and also as a tourist destination mountain during the 365 days of the year.
