The day is being held this weekend, February 8 and 9, in an inclusive and accessible environment adapted to their needs.

The practice of sports contributes greatly to improving the quality of life of people with disabilities, which translates into a positive impact on a physical, cognitive, emotional, family and social level.

The Girona resort stands out for being one of the most advanced centers in resources for people with reduced mobility and has received awards at an international level.

La Molina, the Cruyff Foundation and the Play and Train association are joining forces for the second consecutive year to organize a skiing and snowboarding day adapted for children and young people with disabilities. The event, which will take place this weekend, February 8 and 9, at the Adapted Sports Center of the Girona ski and mountain resort, will bring together more than 50 people.

During the 2nd Cruyff Foundation Day, participating children and young people will enjoy a unique experience in the snow, with activities designed for their needs and accompanied and directed at all times by the technical team of the Play and Train association. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, other proposals will be made to promote inclusion and teamwork. Practicing sports contributes greatly to improving their quality of life, both physically, cognitively, emotionally, family and socially.

This initiative, which was born in 2024, reaffirms the commitment of the three entities to promote equal opportunities through sport.

Pioneering resort

The La Molina Adapted Sports Centre has the resources and professional team necessary to accompany these children and young people on their path to achieving their goals. It is a space where people with disabilities can enjoy sports, both in the winter and summer seasons. The Girona resort, managed by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), stands out for being one of the most advanced centers in resources for people with reduced mobility. Through the collaboration with the Johan Cruyff Foundation and the Play and Train association, La Molina has adequate infrastructure and offers skiing, snowboarding and guided classes with experienced teachers.

In fact, La Molina is known for being a pioneering resort in adapting its facilities to facilitate access for people with reduced mobility. In this sense, it has been recognised by the Agència Catalana de Turisme (ACT) as an initiator of sports and adapted tourism. It also has an IAKS award, an architecture award for advanced sports facilities from the International Association of Sports and Recreational Facilities, for the design and functionality of adapted sports facilities.

The Girona resort also offers various infrastructures that are essential for those users with reduced mobility: adapted parking spaces, rental of specific equipment for different types of disability, easy access to the different catering places, as well as toilets adapted for wheelchair access. As a novelty this season, inclusive toilets have been enabled, next to the Centre building, which guarantee the privacy, comfort and safety of all people with specific needs. This step is part of the resort's commitment to diversity and equality.

At the same time, the resort also has adapted ski lift tickets, such as in the Bosquet area, which stands out for having an adapted ski lift with a wide extension of the belt and which provides athletes with greater safety and balance.

Some of the notable tourist activities are adapted mountain bikes (BTT), skikart, tandem skiing, skiing for the visually impaired or the 4 Emprements modality, where two skis and two stables are used. Or tourist activities such as the adventure park or gondola rides that make La Molina a reference resort in inclusive facilities and services.

Tribute to Johan Cruyff

As a tribute to the figure of Johan Cruyff, La Molina named the conveyor belt of the Bosquet slope in 2016 with the name of the legendary footballer and coach. This track, inaugurated in 2004 thanks to an agreement between FGC and the Cruyff Foundation, is fully adapted for people with reduced mobility and symbolizes the commitment of La Molina and the foundation to adapted sports.

This initiative is part of a long collaboration between both entities to promote adapted sports at the resort, with actions such as competitions, staff training and the creation of a training center for technicians.
