Once again, La Molina has demonstrated its desire to bring sport closer to people with reduced mobility. On 5, 6 and 7 March, in collaboration with the Play & Train Foundation and the Regional Council of La Cerdanya, an inclusive conference was held to raise awareness among schoolchildren about functional diversity and adapted sport.
During these three days, different activities have been carried out between all the schoolchildren of La Cerdanya and the people who are part of the foundations Adis and Tallers de la Cerdanya, where they have been able to learn first hand and, in a completely playful way, the different facilities, spaces and services adapted to the station, as well as the operational care for people with functional diversity. Among the different proposals that have been carried out, the Cadí-Moixeró cable car ascent to the top of the Tosa and an Escape Room activity called "Disable the rocket launch" stand out. They also had the opportunity to learn about the experiences of the renowned sportsman Gabriel Gorce, an alpine skier with a visual impairment who has competed in major international competitions, such as the 2009 World Championships and the Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014 Paralympic Games, where he won the bronze medal in the supercombined event for the visually impaired. At the end of the conference, they were presented with a diploma as a souvenir and to thank them for their attendance.
La Molina, an international benchmark for adapted sport and tourism
The Catalan resort has highly advanced facilities and accessible resources for sportspeople with reduced mobility. In fact, it is one of the three ski and mountain resorts in Catalonia recognised by the Catalan Tourism Agency (ACT) as an initiator of adapted sport and tourism. La Molina also won an IAKS award (International Association for Sports and Recreational Facilities Architecture Award for Advanced Sports Facilities) for the design and functionality of adapted sports infrastructures.
La Molina has facilities designed exclusively for users with reduced mobility: parking spaces, rental of specific equipment for different types of disability, easy access to the different places of restoration, as well as toilets adapted for wheelchair access. It also has adapted ski lift entrances, such as the beginners' area, the Johann Cruyff conveyor belt and the bosquet slope, which has a ski lift with a wide extension of the conveyor belt that provides greater safety and balance for visitors
La Molina also has an Adapted Sports Centre, a space designed so that people with disabilities can enjoy sport all year round. The main accessible tourist activities at the resort include adapted mountain bikes (MTB), skikart, tandem skiing and skiing for the visually impaired, together with the Adventure Park and cable car rides.
Top-level international events
Year after year, the Catalan resort hosts high-level international sporting events for people with disabilities, thanks to the investments made over the last decade to enable athletes with reduced mobility to practise skiing and snowboarding. In fact, La Molina has a long tradition of IPC (International Paralympic Committee) racing, having hosted the IPC Para Snowboard World Championships in 2015 and 2023, and the IPC Alpine Ski World Championships in 2013. It has also hosted IPC World Cups, primarily in snowboarding virtually every season. This interest in sporting events for people with reduced mobility has enabled the resort to make the necessary investments to adapt its facilities, making it a national benchmark in this respect.
This season, the resort will be the venue for the 12th ACELL Catalan Championship for people with intellectual disabilities. The event, which will take place on 23 March, has the collaboration of the Federació Catalana d'Esports per a Persones amb Discapacitat Intel-lectual.
