This December marks the 15th anniversary of the beginning of the collaboration between the Play and Train association and La Molina to promote adapted sports through the Centre d’Esport Adaptat.
To celebrate this significant date, the association will organize the Play and Train SnowFest on the ski slopes of La Molina.
The Girona resort stands out for being one of the most advanced centers in resources for people with disabilities and has received awards at an international level.
La Molina, a pioneer in the promotion of sports for people with disabilities, is hosting the Play and Train SnowFest this Sunday, a day organized by the Play and Train association to celebrate 15 years of collaboration with the Girona resort, managed by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), through the Centre d'Esport Adaptat (CEA). This center has been operating since 2004 and is aimed at all those people with disabilities who want to try snow sports in the winter and various mountain activities in the summer.
In fact, La Molina stands out for being one of the most advanced facilities in resources for people with disabilities, thanks to the collaboration with the Johan Cruyff Foundation and the Play and Train association itself.
15 years of collaboration
For 15 years, Play and Train has been actively collaborating in the management of the CEA. And, to celebrate this significant date, it is organizing a special event, the Play and Train SnowFest this Sunday, December 29. The day will feature a wide range of sports and recreational activities designed to share moments, raise awareness of the importance of continuing to support inclusive sports, encourage the practice of inclusive sports for competitive and recreational purposes, and motivate families to participate in sports activities.
The Play and Train SnowFest will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include: skiing and snowboarding activities, a brunch, and raffles. Donations can also be made during the event, which are essential to maintaining inclusive sports goals and training programs. Therefore, all those who contribute with their donation of 10 euros or more until Saturday, December 28, at this link will have the opportunity to participate in the draw for various prizes.
A pioneer resort in adapting facilities
La Molina has very advanced facilities and accessible resources for athletes with reduced mobility and other types of disabilities, which has allowed it to be one of the three ski resorts in Catalonia recognized by the Catalan Tourism Agency (ACT) as the initiator of sports and adapted tourism. In this sense, it also obtained an IAKS award, an architecture award for advanced sports facilities from the International Association of Sports and Recreational Facilities, for the design and functionality of the adapted sports facilities.
The Girona resort also has several infrastructures that are essential for those users with reduced mobility: adapted parking spaces, rental of specific equipment for different types of disabilities, easy access to the different catering areas, as well as toilets adapted for wheelchair access. As a novelty this season, inclusive toilets have been enabled right next to the building of the Centre d'Esport Adaptat, which guarantee the privacy, comfort and safety of all people with specific needs. This step is part of the resort's commitment to diversity and equality.
In addition, there are also adapted ski lift entrances such as in the Bosquet area, which stands out for having an adapted ski lift with a wide extension of the belt that provides athletes with greater safety and balance.
Some of the most notable adapted tourist activities are adapted mountain bikes (BTT), skikart, tandem skiing, skiing for the visually impaired or the 4-track modality, where two skis and two stables are used. Adapted tourist activities are also offered such as the adventure park or gondola rides that make La Molina a reference resort in inclusive facilities and services.
