The Catalan, who has the record of 214 km/h, trained today at the Girona resort to prepare for her participation in the FIS World Speed Skiing Championship that will take place in the French resort from March 17 to 30.

The Solell slope in La Molina becomes the stage to test the sprinter's equipment and technique.

The ski and mountain resort of La Molina, managed by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), will be the weekly training center in the coming days for Marta Visa, the fastest ski sprinter in Spain and member of the Real Federación Española Deportes de Invierno (RFEDI) team. The Catalan runner, from Bellver de Cerdanya, holds the national record for the discipline with a mark of 214.617 km/h and has chosen La Molina to finish preparing for the World Championship, which will be held in the Vars resort (France) from March 17 to 31.

Marta Visa trained today on the Solell slope, in Torrent Negre, specially conditioned for the occasion to train in the best possible conditions, given the particularities of this modality. The Catalan is planning to extend her training on Wednesdays, March 5 and 12. The skier will test her specific speed skiing equipment, including her 238 cm and 15 kg skis.

Visa, accompanied by the RFEDI speed skiing manager, Robert Puente, spent the early hours of the morning trying to reach speeds of over 100 km/h, in a safe, enclosed environment within the Solell stadium. In this way, the training did not affect the skiers present at the resort, who were able to watch her progress from the Torrent Negre chairlift.

With this training, Marta Visa aims to surpass her previous results in World Cups and World Championships, and to fight for a podium finish at the next World Cup.

The winter sports home

La Molina has positioned itself as the winter sports farm, offering a privileged space for clubs and sports federations to train and organize grassroots sports competitions, many of which are included in the official calendar of the Catalan Winter Sports Federation (FCEH) and the RFEDI.

The mountain resort has also seen the growth of high-level athletes, such as Aleix Aubert Serracanta who, at just 19 years old, won gold in the giant slalom at the Universiade held in Turin in January of this year. The Barcelona native has trained for a good part of his sports career on the slopes of La Molina. But Aubert is not the only Catalan athlete from the RFEDI who aspires to go far and who has trained on the slopes of the Girona resort. Also Quim Salarich Baucells, 31, one of the best slalom specialists. He has already managed to be among the top 15 on seven occasions in the World Cup. And Albert Ortega Fornesa, son of one of the pioneering families of skiing in La Molina. The 26-year-old skier is a giant slalom specialist.

All three participated in the Alpine Skiing World Championships in Saalbach at the beginning of February, where Aubert stood out by achieving a historic 23rd position in the giant slalom (GS). Salarich, for his part, also finished 23rd in the team alpine combined. Ortega Fornesa was 33rd in GS.

23 approved slopes

La Molina has a total of 23 FIS approved slopes, distributed between the disciplines of Slalom-SL (8), Giant-GS (6), SuperGiant-SG (5) and Downhill-DH (2). These slopes, which include names such as Alabau, Els Plans, Estadi de Velocitat, Estadi Solell, La Barcelona - Estadi Lluís Breitfuss, Pla d'Anyella Stadium, Roc Blanc Estadi, Supermolina Stadium and Torrent Negre, consolidate La Molina as a benchmark for alpine skiing competition. Fixed stadiums such as Roc Blanc and Solell - Torrent Negre stand out, where federations and clubs train throughout the year. The Girona resort hosts the training of a dozen clubs.
