Vallter was this morning the main port of the Gran Fondo Pirineus cycling tour, starting and ending in Camprodon and coinciding with the start of the mountain resort's summer season.
The participants of the long route, of 130 kilometers, had to crown the asphalt roof of Catalonia. The resort has given away a drum with a special design of the most emblematic curves of the Vallter mountain pass to all the 600 participants and this year, in line with the FGC Equality Plan, especially to all women for to give support and recognition to the entire female cycling collective, with a group photo at the start of the race. The action will continue throughout the summer season, in order to encourage and promote this sport among all women.
At 2,155 meters above sea level, Vallter is a special category port (11 km at 7.8%) and one of the most iconic of the Pyrenees. This renowned ascent has been the final stage of multiple editions of the Tour of Catalonia and the Tour of Spain, as well as other marches and regional tests.
For years, the entire route has been marked specifically for cyclists, and the last bends bear the name, painted on the asphalt, of the best cycling events in the world.
